architecture - Cida Dormitories
The design is underpinned by core principles of the CIDA City Campus. Called Sthapatya Veda, these ancient codes interpret nature and translate into a set of spatial and construction laws that define the buildings with the intention of creating harmonious and balanced living environments.
The creation of this student dormitory was made possible by funding from the Oprah Foundation and the Dell Corporation. We undertook the project with the assistance of specialists in this field of architectural design who are based in Holland. The dormitory consists of 66 rooms over 2 levels creating a central courtyard. The buildings are well insulated and naturally ventilated, resulting in low energy usage throughout. CIDA City Campus is a dynamic business university that provides free education to school leavers with historically disadvantaged backgrounds. The degree offered is tailor made to the needs of the South African Business sector, a major contributor to the bursaries offered to students. |
